When originally planning our trip to Italy, Verona was not in our sights. However, after speaking to close friends we decided to change our mind and so happy we did!

Verona is known for being the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and it’s fictional re-creation of Juliet’s balcony. It is also known all over the world for its summer opera series preformed in its old Roman Colosseum. The Colosseum is in wonderful condition and the acoustics fantastic.

We started our time in Verona with a delicious dinner at the restaurant Osterio. We had the best meal of our trip so far there and it was owned by the same people who ran the Airbnb we stayed at. We also took a wonderful bike tour. It wasn’t an E-bike this time so we actually had to work a bit. Still pretty relaxing though. Saw lots of great sites we wouldn’t have seen on foot and found a few places we wanted to return to. Well worth it!

One of the beautiful things about Verona is that on any street corner you can see buildings and/ or artwork from four different time periods. The Roman period, the middle ages, the renaissance and the Austrian occupation time of Verona. It is really remarkable to see.

Getting around Verona is fairly easy. We walked just about everywhere and on every corner we were able to see something unique and different. There is even a United of Bennington store that found ancient Roman ruins while doing renovations in 2013. You just go to the men’s section in the basement and there it is!. Highly recommend visiting!
