Sorry I haven’t blogged for a while. Working, studying and playing too much I guess! Yesterday’s event, however, got me back into the blogging mood.
Ray and I went down to la plaza de la ciudad (Town Square) to see a parade and watch the festivities celebrating The Mexican Revolution of 1910. It was a relatively small celebration with government officials and different organizations gathered to celebrate the freedoms they have received since the dictatorship in Mexico ended and in its place was established a constitutional republic.
At the event there were performances by different athletic organizations, dance troops and even a traditional rope swinging gaucho who also performed in a Mexican hat dance. The government officials and police participated in the raising of the giant, town square flag and both the national and regional songs were sung.
It was quite an experience to watch a country’s traditional customs of celebrating freedom. It did, however, cause me to pause and wonder where all the people were and why didn’t they attend. Maybe the 8am wake up call was just too early 😉
